Basic Game Design

Today I got to play around with Unreal's settings and create a parlor room with a light component as well as a camera capturing the first scene. In my mind the storyline transported me to WWII era inside Winston Churchill's dream sequence. This is the room where he would have met with Hitler to ask him the one question everyone wanted to know the answer two... What was the question? You'd have to wait and see when both characters arrive and engage in their dialogue.

To heighten the intensity of the moment the camera frames the two seats between the 4 pillars awaiting their arrival.

PS, I submitted two formats of the deliverable document - zipped and packaged. Here's the link to the google doc!

Group Meeting #1

Our group met today to talk about the game we are hoping to design for this class. It looks like most of us are leaning towards a puzzle-oriented game with twists and turns that re-direct the plot of the game. After throwing out a few ideas about what the game should look like/the characters and the environment they live in we are going to vote on our favorite ones in class on Tuesday and go from there!

Two Favorite Games

I did not grow up playing many games but the two of the ones that I did play were WinX Club PC game and Wii Sports Resort (table tennis and wakeboarding especially).

WinX Club PC

This game had lots of levels and moderately difficult tasks that I surprisingly struggled to pass at first - which sparked my interest for the game even further. The woven storyline of all the characters made the game engaging and interesting to play.

Wii Sports + Resort edition

Most Wii games require you to play with one or more people or an algorithmic opponent (which sometimes was more fun to compete against because they're that good) resulting in a raised competitive edge. Both table tennis and wakeboarding were challenging sports due to the difficulty of mastering the controller for it to perform the maneuvers you wanted it to; however, I was the only one who spent extra time "training" with it so I defended my winners title when I got a chance.

First Edited Image

On January 1st, 2010 my parents and I went to the movies to see James Cameron's Avatar. Little did I know at the time that this movie was going to spark my interest in creating complex online environments with engaging storylines and I credit that specific day to my interest in this class as well.

This is my gimp rendition of my favorite character - Neytiri - who was depicted with impeccable detail and realism in the film but has now been pixilized to look like a "gameboy" character.

First Screencast
